Birdwatching

Johan Chaves is an avid birder who has been leading birding tours in the Manuel Antonio region since 2006 as well as dedicated birding trips throughout the country since 2017. He has an impressive knowledge of the birds of the area and is skillful at finding them and identifying them both by sight and by their songs and calls.

Johan offers serious birding outings to dedicated birders to localities such as Esquipulas, his favorite location. Nestled on the foothills of Costa Rica’s Central Pacific, Esquipulas offers a great array of near-endemic species such as White-crested Coquette, Charming Hummingbird, Fiery-billed Aracari, Turquoise Cotinga, Baird’s Trogon, as well as many, none-endemics but range-restricted species such as Black-bellied Wren, Pale-breasted Spinetail, Yellow-crowned Tyrannulet, and many more.

Start time: 5:00am. Returns by 10:30am.
*This tour is not recommended or offered to families with small children.*
